Shinro (God's Road)

     Nestled amid the relentless rhythm and urban allure of Seoul, the Jongmyo Shrine serves as a vestige of serenity, a gentle whisper amid the encroaching materialism of the contemporary age. This space, untouched by urban flamboyance, offers a serene journey along the iconic 'Shinro' or 'God's Road'. Each step on this path is an act of meditation, a communion between the earthly and the divine, as if every stone and turn whispers age-old wisdoms of destinies intertwined.

     This installation reimagines 'Shinro' for the contemporary observer.  A cascade of lights, intertwined with the omnipresent motif of "Seoul", immerses visitors in a narrative of spirituality and evolution. Streams of luminescence weave through the classical Ionian columns of Deoksugung, guiding the eye towards an electrifying neon proclamation: “The old stories that began with stones and trees”. Amid this luminous backdrop, stone effigies punctuate the scene, their stoic forms critiquing the whimsical metamorphosis of Seoul's traditional ethos into today's pop-culture ornaments. An artful juxtaposition, "Shinro" encapsulates the city's heartbeats, past and present.
