PERSONA
: Between "I" and "We"
The city, a collective of signifiers and pulsating human energy, emerges as the central motif of the exhibition. Here, the city is not merely a physical entity but a vibrant fabric of human experiences and stories that evolve and intermingle over time. The artwork captures the city's innate rhythm: the humdrum of passers-by, the ambient music echoing on looped roads, and the tacit dialogues exchanged amidst the city's bustle.
This video installation does not seek to impose meanings or solicit answers. Instead, it invites visitors to explore the deeply human, slowly unraveled, and empathetic narratives encapsulated in ordinary moments, routines, and observations.
The work hinges on the cornerstone of sound, an element that transcends conventional aesthetic constraints, weaving together the authentic tales of over 60 individuals living in Seoul. These participants, bound by the shared geography of the city yet diverse in their life experiences, contribute fragments of stories, forming a poignant collage of urban life.
Their distinct voices and narratives collaboratively shape the temporal, spatial, cultural, and historical image of Seoul, asserting the city's dynamic persona. However, the work navigates the delicate balance of treating the city as a common denominator, while acknowledging the distinctiveness of each human experience it encapsulates, offering a nuanced exploration of urban life.
